Donald David Ross passed early morning on January 24, 2016 at his home in Unity, OR with his family and wife Bonnie at his side.\n\nHe was born in Bend, Oregon to Merrill Fielding and Jesse Marie Ross on February 12, 1943. He was the youngest of three children. Dave grew up in Bend and started working for Les Schwab in 1965 when there were only eight stores. He transferred to Moscow, Idaho as an assistant manager. Over time he was promoted to the manager of the Ontario, Oregon store. Before moving to Ontario, he met Carol Larson and they were married.\n\nAt the time Dave began working in Ontario, the store was selling around $30,000 in tires and by the time he retired the store was selling $300,000 in tires. He eventually became the zone manager and helped many men be successful store managers. He loved his job and was very good at it. One of his secret loves was flying the Les Schwab jet to and from his manager meetings in Prineville. The pilot, Bob Miller, taught Dave how to fly and he loved it!\n\nDave cared about people! He wasn't just a boss or a mentor, but a friend. He touched the lives of many people and one friend described him as the "gold standard" for a good person. One of his bookkeepers described him as the "best boss". Dave loved spending time with those he loved, always had time to listen, and you could always count on him to give support to everyone.\n\nHe also had a great sense of humor! There were countless stories of pranks Dave and the guys played on one another (one being the carp in the water tank). As a dad he was always ready for a good joke with his kids, not to mention his wife! He carried humor with him and will forever be loved and remembered for it by his family.\n\nWhen Dave was close to retirement another Schwab friend was selling some property in Unity, he ended up purchasing the land and never looked back. He loved living in Unity as it provided all the things he loved to do, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors,\n\nDave and Carol had three children; Tom Ross who works for Columbia Helicopters in Portland, Oregon, Amy Collins who is raising a family in Vale, Oregon, and Shawn Ross who works for Les Schwab in Ontario, OR.\n\nDave is survived by his wife Bonnie, his three children Tom (Terri), Amy (Jesse), and Shawn (Raylyn), six grandchildren; Sierra, Ava, Cody and Drew, Haisley and Lexie. He is also survived by his brother Ron Ross (Pat) of Eugene and his sister Merrilyn Mastrud (Harry) of Bend, as well as three nieces and three nephews.\n\nHe was preceded in death by his wife Carol in 2006.\n\nA Celebration of Life will be held in Unity at the Burnt River School on March 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Dinner will follow for friends and family at the Unity Community Hall.
