Jerry Cantrell's life journey ended at the age of 88 on May 8, 2015. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Friday May 15, 2015 at Gray's West & Company Pioneer Chapel.A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am Saturday, May 16, 2015 at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, 2625 Hughes Lane, Baker City, Oregon.\n\nInterment will follow at 2:30 pm at Grandview Cemetery, 601 S. 20th Street, LaGrande, Oregon.\n\nHe was born in Wallowa, Oregon on December 13, 1926 to William and Martha Cantrell. He met the love of his life, Alice May Weimer, in Junior High and they were married the day after their High School graduation in 1945. He served a tour with the Merchant Marines and on returning they moved to Portland Oregon where he worked for several years in the shipyards. After moving back to La Grande they owned the 5 Points Auto Camp near Hilgard selling groceries, gasoline and lodging. The family moved to the ranch in Haines in 1958 where he has ranched for many years. He worked in the Baker County assessor's office for 12 years before being elected county assessor eight years after which he retired in 1989 continuing as a gentleman rancher.\n\nHe is survived by his devoted wife Alice May, sons Mike (Tonna), Tony (Debbie), daughter Kathy Rogers (Marlin) and over 20 grand and great grandchildren whom he adored.\n\nMemorial contributions may be made to the L.D.S.
