Joe Stubbs Obituary (1946 - 2023)

LaVerne "Joe" Stubbs, 77, of Baker City, Oregon, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at his home surrounded by love and his family. Joe was born August 6, 1946, in Forest Grove, Oregon, to parents LaVerne and Marjorie Stubbs. The family later moved to Cascade Locks, Oregon, where he and his siblings were raised. He worked in the logging industry and was Fire Chief in Cascade Locks for many years before going to work for the Oregon Department of Transportation, retiring at 55 after 35 years of service. He later drove truck for Warren Crane for five years. Joe was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, fishing, crabbing, and clamming on the Oregon coast. He also loved doing woodwork in his shop, making beautiful items for his family and friends. If Joe wasn't in his shop, you could find him working in his yard or garden. Joe is survived by his wife Rhonda of 27 years; brother Marion Stubbs of Drain, Oregon; sisters Wanda (John) Brunecz of Fairview, Oregon, Barb (Erwin) Oelhafen of Woodburn, Oregon, Glenda (Jesse) Groves of Cascade Locks, Oregon, Donna (Peter) Habben of Washougal, Washington, and Cathy Vandiver of Nampa, Idaho. He is also survived by his four children Michelle (Bill) Kiaunis, North Plains, Oregon, Michael (Gina) Stubbs, Vancouver, Washington, Marjie (Angel) Estrada of Gresham, Oregon, and Mary (Eugene) Jackson of Portland, Oregon; three stepchildren Kerry (Tracie) Cavazos of Richland, Washington, Terry (Jennifer) Cavazos, Boise, Idaho, and Cheri Cavazos of Addison, Texas. 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents LaVerne and Marjorie Stubbs. No services will be held at the time. A celebration of Joe's life and scattering of Joe's ashes will be scheduled for the Spring/Summer of 2024 for family and friends, with a BBQ and potluck to follow. Details will be announced when confirmed.
