Joe Jackson Uselton, 94, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, in Eugene, Oregon, surrounded by loved ones. After 23 years in the US Air Force, Joe retired and settled down in Minot, North Dakota, with his wife, Wendy, and their six daughters. Joe and Wendy moved to Baker City in 2010 to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Rochelle and Eldon Surber, so they could spend their later years relaxing with family and enjoying the milder Eastern Oregon winters.
Joe enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, bingo, puzzles of all kinds, gardening, feeding birds, bowling, and, most of all, being around his many children and grandchildren. He was a quiet soul, but when he had something to say, everyone gathered around to listen. His gentle heart was The perfect match for his gravelly singing voice and the twang of his Telecaster as he belted out songs like “Shotgun Boogie” and “House of the Rising Sun” while his grandson played along.
Joe always had a joke, a story, and a kind word for anyone from the pastor to the bank teller. He was a loving father and grandfather and devoted husband to his sweetheart, Wendy, who passed in 2011.
The funeral service will be held at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel at 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR, on March 17, 2025, at 1 pm. Joe will be interred at Mt. Hope Cemetery following the funeral service with full military honors.
