John “Jack” Rogers Burchtorf, 98, of Baker City, Oregon passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, April 25, 2026 in his home. Born on October 5, 1927 to Parents John Henry Burchtorf and Atha May Rogers Burchtorf, Jack was a dedicated Dentist and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Jack graduated from Baker High school, Oregon State University, and finally graduated from University of Oregon Dental School. He enlisted in the US Navy in August, 1945 and was discharged as a Seaman 1st Class in July 1946.
Jack was an awesome dad and superhero to his family and a legend to many others! He was one of a kind…a dentist that had skills that current dentists cannot replicate, golf skills that still have people scratching their heads, learned to waterski in his late 40’s. Basketball, bowling, trap shooting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling - he did it all very well! Jack was fierce competitor from golf, to bowling, to waterskiing to cars. Jack held eight (8) Baker Golf course club championships and had ten (10) holes in one. He was an awesome Dad and will be missed.
He is survived by his children Julie Hudson (spouse Geoff), Kim Burchtorf (spouse Georgia), Dana Taylor (spouse Tim) and Tracy Sams (spouse Duane); his grandchildren Cali Taylor, Lance Parrish, Cody Taylor, Jack Burchtorf, Kyle Hudson, Kacie Sams, Marc Burchtorf, and Brody Sams; and 5 great grandchildren. Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret Ann Olson Burchtorf, his mother Atha Burchtorf and father John Burchtorf.
A graveside service was held on May 5, 2026 at the North Powder cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Quail Ridge Golf Course through Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel at 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
