Kenneth "Darwin" Potter Obituary (1937 - 2022)

Kenneth "Darwin" Potter, 84, of Baker City, Oregon, passed away at his residence on October 23, 2022. A celebration of life with military honors will be held on May 26, 2023, beginning at 11:00 AM at the Harvest Church Fellowship Hall in Baker City, Oregon, with Pastor Brad Phillips officiating the service. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at the Harvest Church Fellowship Hall in conjunction with the Harvest Church senior potluck beginning at 12:00 Noon. Darwin always looked forward to and used to attend the senior potluck. Darwin was born on December 22, 1937, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, to Francis Potter and Grace (Warner) Potter. He attended high school at Marsh Valley, and later Darwin attended Idaho State University, earning a Master's Degree in Counseling. He served in the Army as a First Lieutenant from 1962-1964. Darwin worked as a counselor, helping many people throughout his career. He married Betty Jo Flick in Nampa, Idaho, and Darwin had three children with Betty Jo. Kenneth, Mark, and Valerie. He later married LaNora Bloom in Colorado, and they shared a wonderful life until LaNora passed away. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, art and crafts, photography, pottery, and weaving. Darwin was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, and the Baker City Harvest Church. He was always ready to help anyone who needed assistance and volunteered for Heart 'n Home Hospice. Darwin is survived by his three children, Kenneth Dee Potter of Nampa, Idaho, Mark Allen Potter of Incline Village, Nevada, and Valerie Arleen Potter of Baker City, Oregon. He is also survived by his first wife, Betty Jo King of Caldwell, Idaho, Bette, Bonnie, their kids and grandkids, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Grace Potter; brothers Paul, Jack, and Stan; and his sisters, Arlene and Sheila. Memorial contributions may be made to Best Friends of Baker City to honor Darwin's love for animals or to the Baker City Harvest Church to benefit the children's programs as he loved kids and God.
