Life long Baker City resident, Stephen L. Martin, passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 80 on Friday, February 10, 2023 with his wife, Carol by his side. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 47 years, Carol Hlaudy Martin, his three children and their families: eldest son Jim Martin and wife Brandi with their two children, Benjamin and Priscilla, middle daughter, Karen Martin, son Michael Martin and wife Zina.\n\nHe was born in Saint Elizabeth Hospital in 1942 to parents, Verne L. Martin and Evadeen Biggs Martin. Steve spent his life in service to his community in Baker County. He took great pride in providing Baker with financial services first at Baker County Finance and later through his own business, Martin Financial Services that he operated from 1995 through 2021. \n\nHe was a long time lover of aeronautics; he spent many hours building and flying radio controlled aircraft. In his younger years he could often be found with his gaze turned up to the sky out on Virtue Flats flying his planes. Steve appreciated the freedom and peace found in this great corner of the world. He loved exploring the mountains around Baker. He was an avid collector. \n\nSteve believed firmly in personal responsibility and community support. He was proud to be a 60 year member of The Elks fraternal organization. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City. All are welcome.
