Verba Jean (Child) Hampton Obituary (1936 - 2022)

Verba Jean Hampton age 85, died April 12, 2022, after having a massive hemorrhagic stroke in Pocatello, Idaho. Verba is survived by her three children: Danny, Thomas, and Tanzie. Grandchildren: Brandi, TJ, Chance, Cody, Christopher, and Hadley. Great Grand Children: Kimberlee, Harli, Trevor, Kendra, Zaylee, Kaden Lee, Fletcher, Riley, Brandon, Chance Jr, Kaylee, Jackson, Janie, and Beau. She is also survived by her brother, Dick, her Sister, Vicki, and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins. Verba was born in North Powder, Oregon on December 12, 1936 to Noel and Lorraine Child. She was born in a small cabin that still stands today. She lived a large part of her younger life in Baker City, Oregon. And attended Baker High School. As a Junior Verba met Robert Hampton, they were married and she left school. After getting married Verba lived in Florence and Baker City for a short time, but the majority of their younger years were spent in Richland, Oregon. In 1976, they moved to Hermiston, Oregon and remained there until Bob's passing in 1998. Bob and Verba were married for 46 years. Verba moved to John Day in 1999 and lived with her granddaughter Brandi until 2015. She then moved to Nampa, Idaho where she cared for her mother and shared a duplex with her brother. In October of 2021, she moved to Montpelier, Idaho to live with her son Tom and two of his grandchildren. She was mostly a stay-at-home wife and mother, having a couple of odd jobs like selling Avon and Tupperware. Verba could milk cows with the best of them on the dairy. Verba loved to roller skate as a teen and young woman, she even made her own skating outfits. She often made her own dresses and was a very good seamstress. When she was younger, Verba loved to draw and paint. She would paint on anything, including canvas, saws, boards, and anything else she saw fit. She was an excellent artist. She enjoyed picnics, gardening, camping, riding horses, making fake floral arrangements for the yard and decorating inside, going to yard sales, and going to church or family gatherings. Verba had an infectious laugh! When she got to laughing it was something to hear! Going down the water tubes at Great Wolf Lodge she could be heard from the top to the bottom. Verba was a caretaker all of her life. She was there for anybody's kids. She raised her kids, and grandkids and helped with multiple great-grandkids, nieces, and nephews. Verba was known for yelling at the kids "AWE YOU KIDS!", and when Bob was alive he would then scold her saying, "Verba leave those kids alone!" Verba loved all of her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Verba always wanted all of her kids and grandkids together, they were all with her in the days preceding her death taking shifts at the hospital to assure she wasn't alone, visiting and sharing memories. This appeared to give her great peace as she was passing. A graveside service will be held on May 5, 2022, at 2 pm in Elgin, Oregon at the cemetery. This was per her wishes.
